about the artist

My studio practise is based in Burnaby, British Columbia.

After 35 years behind the camera I have taken up working with clay for the last 7 years.  My inspirations of all my work comes from what I see top side and in the ocean. I started taking pottery classes at a local community arts center, and this quickly became my life's obsession. I consider myself "self-taught" because I am not formally trained in ceramics, though I have had many wonderful teachers along the way.

I am interested in reaching beyond the confines of creating work that people want to 'purchase'  to creating artwork that evoke my own joy in the finished piece.  It is freeing to not be constrained to the wants and needs of the consumer which has allowed me to grow as an artist.  Respectfully I do not care what you like or do not like but more on how my artwork makes you feel.  My work are expressions of both the light and the darker sarcastic edge of me.

By breaking the boundaries of the consumer I feel I am up to more experimentation, certainly a heck of a lot more failures and creating a variety of different forms.  It is in those failures and exploration that I have found my own artistic vision and more importantly my voice!

My love of the ocean has led me to become certified recreational diver in the fall of 2018.  In January 2019 I completed my Open Water certification in Maui, Hawaii taking my photography from top side to underwater. The ocean is a whole new world and without a doubt my sculptures contains elements of my passion.
